Intro

I started this blog for a couple different reasons. 1.) I have friends interested in homeschooling and want to see what we are doing and 2.) I want to have a "record" of what we are doing.

We decided to start homeschooling just a month or so ago. It was always something I wanted to do but Josh had a hard time accepting it so I eventually gave up and planned on sending him to public school. However, after many, MANY horror stories of our local public schools, I decided there was NO way my children were going to go through that. I'm kind of an over-protective mama, but hey, at least I care enough to make "crazy" decisions like this, right? ;)

So here we are. The past month we have been doing the "letter of the week" preparatory curriculum. We got up to week 4 and I realized it just wasn't for us. I had a hard time getting Braxton to focus. The only time he was really excited and focused was when we were doing some kind of craft (coloring, cutting, pasting, etc) He LOVED anything that was hands on. So I'm now on a mission to find the perfect hands on curriculum for him, or make my own.

It's really not necessary to homeschool a preschooler. Our state (Oklahoma) just requires K-12 but I figured Pre-K won't hurt! Right now we are focusing on the alphabet and numbers. Braxton already knows all his shapes and colors and is able to count to 3. With letter of the week he learned how to recognize the letter A when he sees it but not the others we learned.

Stay tuned for posts about what curriculum I've found and recommendations on great educational toys for preschoolers!
